Based on our corporate mission to “work closely and flexibly with you, as your lifetime partner, to help you enjoy sweeter living,” the Mitsui DM Group aims to always expression our appreciation for nature as the source of our business and to widely deliver nature’s blessings to people in various forms.
To do so, it is essential that we get our customers to smile as they enjoy their food and ensure healthy, sustainable local communities and, by extension, the global environment. Based on this basic recognition, we have formulated a Basic Sustainability Policy to take on the challenges posed by the global environmental and social issues facing the Company. By supporting the environment, people, happiness, health, and local communities, we are working to solve various issues facing our planet, society, and the people around us; to create new value; and to realize a sustainable society.
In addition, to focus our efforts, we have identified ten materiality issues: climate change issues, water resource issues, waste issues, respecting human rights, strengthening occupational health and safety, incorporating diversity and inclusion, health impairment due to excessive or insufficient sugar intake, ensuring food safety, promoting health and improving nutrition, and developing local economies. Addressing each of these issues through our business activities is recognized and required by all of our stakeholders and is our raison d’être as a company.
We strive to be a corporate group that continuously contributes to a future of greater happiness, and we will continue to take on challenges to enrich everyone’s happiness.
The Group recognizes that responding to climate change, human rights, and other sustainability challenges is a key management issue that leads to risk reduction and corporate growth. We have established the sustainability management system shown below and created a Sustainability Committee as an advisory body to the Management Meeting.
The Sustainability Committee is chaired by the Representative Director, President & CEO and is made up of sustainability officers, executive officers, and outside experts. The committee receives reports on initiatives for the following management issues related to sustainability from the Sustainability Planning Department of Mitsui DM Sugar Holdings and deliberates and reviews these reports in response to consultations from the Management Meeting.
The Sustainability Committee meets quarterly to report the results of its deliberations and reviews to the Management Meeting. The Management Meeting reports and/or proposes to the Board of Directors the results of its deliberations based on the details of the reporting by the Sustainability Committee.
